The creative problem

Creativity is like a gambling game, high risk high reward. If you’re a creative person, chances are you hate the idea of having a regular job and all you want is to go around, explore crazy ideas and change the world.

But the chances of you creating the next Facebook or Twitter are so unbelievably low, that’s it’s a stupid idea to even try. It’s very unlikely you’ll ever manage to monetize your creative pursuits to any significant degree, or get much recognition at all for them.

Stupid as it may be tho, the creative gamblings of people who are unreasonably optimistic to the point of being delusional is what drives the world forward. After all, there is a Facebook and a Twitter, a Tesla or a Microsoft.

So what do you do?

Perhaps the best option is to first create a minimum amount of stability you need for a decent life, by getting any job that allows you to sustain yourself economically, without making you want to kill yourself. Then you can spend the rest of your time and effort on any crazy, wild ideas you may have and follow your passions purely for the thrill of the chase.

You’re very unlikely to become the next rock-star billionaire in the process, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy yourself every step of the way.
